What FAKT Video Recorder does

FAKT Video Recorder is a browser-based recording application. It lets you record a browser tab, a screen, or webcam video in the browser and save the result on your computer.

Recording privacy

Recording files remain local in your browser until you save or delete them. Screen content is not uploaded to FAKT servers. Microphone audio is not uploaded. Webcam content is not uploaded. Recorded video is not uploaded. Local editing, separate tracks, Download All ZIP packages, and MP4/WAV/MP3 conversion also run in the browser and are not uploaded. There is currently no cloud-recording upload. If a future cloud feature is offered, it would only apply after you explicitly choose to use it. A FAKT Video Recorder Pro subscription does not change this recording privacy model.

Optional user accounts

Free recording does not require an account. You may create an optional FAKT Video Recorder account to subscribe to Pro. When you create an account we store the email address you provide and a hashed password. We do not store passwords in plaintext. Email verification may be used where implemented.

Payments and Stripe

Paid Pro subscriptions are processed by Stripe. Stripe is an independent payment processor. FAKT does not store payment card numbers. Stripe may collect and process payment details, customer identifiers, and other information needed to complete billing according to Stripe’s own terms and privacy policy. FAKT stores subscription and customer identifiers and related payment/subscription metadata needed to operate Pro (for example Stripe customer ID, subscription ID, price ID, subscription status, and current period end).

Analytics

Anonymous usage analytics may collect: an anonymous visitor ID; an anonymous session ID; session duration; pages or screens used; browser; operating system; device type; screen resolution; language; referring source; UTM campaign data where present; recorder mode; recording duration metadata; selected quality; feature usage; errors and permission failures; and approximate country or city where available. Analytics may also record account and checkout events such as sign-up, log-in, upgrade clicks, and checkout start or cancel, without passwords, payment card details, or Stripe secret keys.

Analytics does not collect recording content. It does not upload your screen, webcam, microphone audio, or recorded video files.

Location

Approximate country, region, or city may be derived from server or network information supplied by the hosting environment (for example Cloudflare or similar CDN/geo headers). Where that information is missing or incomplete, analytics may use a server-side lookup from a third-party IP intelligence provider such as IPinfo, when the site operator has configured it. FAKT Video Recorder does not use browser GPS, does not call navigator.geolocation, and does not collect a precise street address. Country, region, and city show as Unknown when no reliable data is available. Location is never fabricated.

Recording content is not sent to IPinfo. Screen, audio, video, and webcam recording content is not sent to IPinfo. The IPinfo lookup, when used, is performed on the server using the network address of the request and is used only to estimate coarse location and optional network classification for analytics.

Cookies and storage

A PHP session cookie is used for the admin dashboard, for authenticated operators. A separate PHP session cookie is used for optional public user accounts. The public recorder uses browser local storage for app preferences such as language and default quality. Local recording storage uses browser technologies such as OPFS and IndexedDB. Analytics anonymous IDs may be stored first-party in local or session storage.

Retention

Analytics retention is managed according to configured analytics retention settings in the admin dashboard. Operators can change the retention period and purge older analytics. Local recordings stay in your browser until you save or delete them and are not retained on FAKT servers. Account and subscription records are retained as needed to operate the service and billing.
